Schiit stack gaming9/22/2023 The barebones iFi Zen DAC, works very well & really is a direct competition of the Magni/Modi combo. I don’t have much info on it- since, like yourself I wouldn’t wanna be pigeon holed to buying HiFiMans forever. There’s a specific stack made by Drop that is made for HiFiMans. I tried it, more forward than the orig & adds a bit of high end (closer to Schiit’s but with ‘extra meat’. ‼️ edit: ** u could also change it by firmware that adds a ‘GTO’ filter. IFi’s Burr Brown sound is heftier on the mid range & bass, highs r a tiny bit tamed to give it a warmer sound. uses the analog domain than DSP to compensate. It sounds like a gimmick but TBH, I use it more often than not. There’s also a nifty “Tru Bass” option that takes care of the missing low end for HP’s like Sundaras. The Zen DAC, will sound more analog- ish than the AKM chipset Schiit is using. The Gain Stages r the same as Schiit’s IMO. I have read that the Magnius' SE connection is unfortunately quite poor, so that has added apprehension about going that route. I know that I wont get double the performance for the price, but I'd like to get something that is a lasting investment. The real question is if going full-balanced is worth the extra cost over the Magni Heresy for now. Order a Modi+Magnius AND a Modius in two separate orders($500), so I don't have to wait up to 8 weeks for everything, and get the end-game solution that I can use until it dies with any headphones I decide to upgrade to in the future. My speakers (Edifier R1280DB) are also connected to my E10K. I'm considering an upgrade to the Schiit Stack (Magni 3 + Modi 3). Get a Modi + Magni Heresy stack ($200), run single-ended, but get great value and still a slight upgrade on the amp, but have some fomo and wonder what if. Upgrade to Schiit stack worth ita : r/headphones Hi everyone I have a Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro (250 Ohm). Here are my options (staying with Schiit as the manufacturer): I'm impatient and would like to at least have 2 DACs for my setups working ASAP. I talked myself into buying the Magnius / Modius stack a few days ago, went to submit an order, and the Modius is back-ordered for 6 to 8 weeks, and from what I'm seeing posted here, the wait is likely to be even longer. This considered, all I really need is another DAC, however, as I'm borrowing the Modi I use for my RPi on the Hifi stereo setup, and already have a very capable amp. I am also looking to buy some different headphones to compliment the Sundaras in the future. Everything I've read says that planar magnetic headphones benefit from the more power you can give them, so I was interested in going endgame and upgrading to full balanced. They sound great using single-ended cable out of my Modi 3+ / Magni 3 stack, but I have the itch to see what performance is left on the table. With this being said, I decided to purchase a pair of Hifiman Sundaras. I listen to a very eclectic range of music and am always looking to maximize my listening experience without breaking the bank. I am an avid music enthusiast and have been getting back into cost-effective Hifi solutions for my record collection and desktop setup. I am currently stuck in paralyses-by analysis and want to get some opinion on which way to treatmyself for the holidays.
